If you are lucky to visit Sardinia during summer time, you will notice that after a long dinner everyone sips a deep purple-red colored liqueur called Mirto. Mirto is what we call an Italian vintage cultural heritage liqueur, and it’s made only on the beautiful island of Sardinia located in the Mediterranean Sea. Using the berries and leaves of the myrtle plant, mirto offers a unique tasting experience of intense fruit notes with juniper, mint and eucalyptus, as well as some citrus. First it appears very sweet, followed by a pleasant bitterness. The best way to drink mirto is chilled. Place the bottle and a liqueur glass in the freezer until it is very cold, and you are ready to pour. Enjoy as a digestive or with dessert!
