In 1864 Maximilian The First set off from Austria to become the emperor of Mexico. While he was there, he did a lot of good, but the Mexicans killed him anyway even though they quite liked him. They also quite liked the Austrian-style lager he brought with him. Which they didn't kill.
Instead, developed it into a unique, Mexican-Austrian style lager that's now world famous. It's probably not the legacy that poor old Maximilian was aiming for, but better than his nephew's, whose death ignited World War I.
