AFRICAN TASTE, GERMAN QUALITY
Elephant Gin is an award-winning handcrafted premium gin of 45% alcoholic volume made with rare African botanicals. While its story started in South Africa, Elephant Gin is handmade in Germany with a focus on highest quality production standards. All ingredients are hand-selected, bottles custom-made, labels hand-written and production efforts controlled by working in small batches.
INSPIRATION
The idea for an African-inspired gin evolved while reminiscing about the so-called ‰ۡÌÝÌásundowner‰ۡó» drinks after a day out in the South African bush. These sunset cocktails are a big tradition in South Africa ‰ۡÌÝÌÕ and more often than not, they consist of a G&T. The idea was backed by a mutual love of exotic African botanicals and a realisation that these would make interesting additions to a premium gin, alongside more traditional botanicals such as juniper and orange peel.
TASTING NOTES
The gin‰ۡó»s nose yields a subtle juniper aroma with an undertone of mountain pine and other herbaceous notes. The taste is complex but strikingly smooth, encompassing floral, fruity and spicy flavours which can be enjoyed both straight and in a cocktail.
ENGAGEMENT
Gin and Elephants. As combinations go, it‰ۡó»s not an obvious one. But Elephant Gin is more than just the obvious choice. In fact, the idea to make an Africa-inspired gin encompassed more than just sourcing rare botanicals. Elephant Gin also gives back to what inspired the gin in the first place. From the very first bottle sold in September 2013, Elephant Gin has been giving 15% of all proceeds to two African elephant foundations to support the preservation of the African wildlife and help ensure that future generations will also be able to explore these magnificent landscapes. With the funds, Elephant Gin has been supporting Big Life Foundation‰ۡó»s Ranger Club, contributing to eight rangers‰ۡó» salaries, rations and equipments such as tents, rucksacks, sleeping bags and mosquito nets. The rangers work is crucial in anti-poaching activities in Kenya and Tansania. In South Africa, near beautiful Jozini in KwaZulu Natal, Elephant Gin has been supporting Space For Elephants Foundation. Unemployment is rife in that area and attractive for poachers to getting information and assistance from local communities. The strategy of the project is to get the communities involved by creating employment opportunities to make them aware of the value of wildlife by educating and showing them how to earn a living from the wildlife. Elephant Gin has been supporting a school, built hiking trails, viewing points, camp facilities overlooking the Pongola Game Reserve, and are planning much more to offer employment opportunities and attract more tourists to the area.
