Maris Otter Pale Ale Malt, Caramalt and a generous dollop of a highly roasted
Crystal Malt make up the grist. The Fuggles hops are French as English
plantings of this variety are shrinking due to disease and pests. The water is
lightly mineralised as we are relying on hop bitterness to balance the malt
richness in this Extra Special Real Ale.
First brewed as a celebration of Bob Hudson’s first visit to New Zealand in
1999. The hero in this beer has always been the rich malts we use. The yeast is
a classic Southern English strain that produces esters in abundance that
contribute a fruity complexity to this rich and generous ale.
