As things currently stand, we must shut our virtual doors to online sales of alcohol. Needless to say, we are pretty disappointed we are unable to serve our customers at this time.
We are licensed to sell alcohol online and must follow 'requirements relating to remote sales by holders of off-licences'. The MBIE definition of essential services allows for the remote sale of alcohol, however due to a interpretation of the MBIE definition, we have been informed we must stop selling alcohol. This applies to us and at least six other local online retailers. However, it does not apply to any number of retailers throughout the country who, at this point, may still continue to trade.
While we fully support the strictest measures necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (including a full ceasing of trade, if needed), we are more than disappointed that the restrictions for online alcohol retailers are being applied unevenly, and thus, advantaging some retailers over others.
We are working with the relevant parties to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, but for now; stay home, stay safe, be kind, and see you on the other side.
Cheers,
Garth
