Pilsner and lager style beers are two distinct yet related styles.
Pilsners, a subset of lager, are renowned for their crystal-clear, golden hue and a distinctive hoppy bitterness, complemented by a crisp, refreshing finish that makes them exceptionally drinkable. They often exhibit a delicate balance of malty sweetness and floral or herbal notes from the hops, creating a harmonious and approachable flavor profile. New Zealand pilsners can lean more to the hops and are often fruity and sweet compared to European style pilsners due to the New Zealand varieties of hops used.
Lagers, on the other hand, encompass a broader category that includes pilsners among other sub-styles. Characterized by their clean, smooth taste, lagers are fermented and conditioned at lower temperatures than ales, resulting in a beer with fewer fruity esters and a more refined, subtle flavor. The lager family can vary from light and mild to dark and complex, offering a versatility that can suit any occasion or preference.
This is a well made beer with a smooth and well integrated chocolate , coffee and caramel combination of flavours. Just the right amount of sweetness offset by the oaty and malty back flavours. Well worth trying.
Not being a Gin drinker I was pleasantly surprised with the taste, however the morning after I suffered. Probably should have stopped at halfway lol
